Drive Your Own Sleigh

It doesn’t matter how much you earn or what you have; there’s always someone who has more money and more stuff. Sometimes it’s hard to go without or spend less when it seems like everyone around you has everything.

If you’ve been trying to keep up with the Joneses and your finances are stressed especially during the holidays, drive your own sleigh.

Keep this is mind:

  • Stop comparing yourself to others. You don’t know their story and it’s possible that they are struggling to keep up as well.
  • Learn to live within your means. No matter how much you earn, spend less and save more.
  • Commit to your own financial well-being. Nobody is going to take care of you but you.

Throughout your financial lifetime the Joneses will always be there. They’ll have nicer clothes than you, a newer car and send their kids to better schools. They’ll have a bigger house and take fabulous vacations. Trying to keep up with the Joneses is not only impossible but a waste of time. Instead of spending money to accumulate more things, try putting your energy into your family and your relationships.
